Galatasaray had already planned the construction of a new home court with a capacity for 10.500 people, but after winning the Eurocup, Turkey’s president Recep Tayiip Erdogan suggested the creation of new plans for an arena with 15.000 seats!
That was revealed during a meeting among club members. One of them, Faruk Sile, mentioned that he met with the president of Galatasaray who informed him that everything is ready to financially back up the making of the new arena. But it was president Erdogan that proposed the construction of a better, larger and generally improved arena. So it was decided that the plans will be rearranged in order to create the 15.000 seat court mentioned above.
Furthermore, it was also known that Galatasaray’s income from sponsors this season was just 3-4 million euros, while Darussafaka had earned 36 million until November 2015 and Anadolu Efes received 32 million.
