The Bulgarian national team might receive an great boost in the qualifying games for the Eurobasket 2017 with Darius Adams. The Laboral Kutxa guard is to receive a passport that will allow him to join the country’s efforts, if it is obtained in time, as Sportal reports.
Furthermore, the Bulgarian citizenship will provide Adams with more options in the transfer marker. After one impressive season in Euroleague, the American player is expected to be one of the hottest free agents, with many European powerhouses already eyeing him with great interest.
Adams recorded 13.2 points, 4 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in Euroleague, helping Laboral Kutxa reach the Final Four for the first time since 2008.
Apart from Adams, the coach of the national team, Lubomir Minchev, has another American, Jason Washburn of Sigal Prishtina in his mind. A completely different player than Adams, since he is a 2.09 cm center, Washburn will also receive a Bulgarian passport if the documents are processed within the appropriate time-frame.
However, the national team can only have one naturalized player. If both Adams and Washburn receive the passports in time, it will all come down to which of the two players will better satisfy the needs of Bulgaria in the qualification tournament for Eurobasket 2017.
