No thriller in the finale, no comeback needed and no difficulty whatsoever. Contrary to the first final, this time Strasbourg saw no equal in the face of Villeurbanne and made the 2-0 winning easier than what the 73 – 61 shows.
After a balanced first quarter, the more the game progressed, the more superior the hosts were becoming, finishing the third quarter with a lead of 25 points, 66 – 41. Only their relaxed behavior allowed Villeurbanne to close the gap in the score a bit, during the last period.
Rodrigue Beaubois’ action could not be contained by the guests, since he scored 20 points, shooting with 7/11 from the field. The top performer for the losing side was Darryl Watkins who finished the game with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Let’s see if we will see a reaction by Villeurbanne in the third final… or if a sweep is in order.
