He was Olimpia Milano‘s top scorer in the victory that gave his team the crown of the Italian champion. But this performance might as well be Alessandro Gentile’s last show with the Reds’ jersey.
“It might be my last game for Milano“, said the ‘capitano’ in Rai Sport. “These five years in the team have been intense. I have given everything for this jersey winning two league titles and one Italian Cup. I think that for a 23-year old player, these are satisfactory”.
A highly-skilled player with an endless offensive talent, Gentile was a second-round NBA draft pick in 2014 and currently his rights are owned by the Houston Rockets. They can break his contract with Milano, which ends in 2018 if they want to enlist him.
“This championship is for my family because my mom and dad have always been with me, in the darkest hours, when everyone turned their backs to me”, Gentile continued saying. “They have always been there. Just me and my family know what I have suffered this year”.
2015/2016 has been a quite difficult year for the Italian player who was plagued injuries that disallowed him to perform according to his full capacity. “It’s been an incredible season… but with many injuries and accidents. I tried to give everything when I decided to stay in Milan. I wanted this”.
While the year was filled with sour moments, the last taste after winning the championship, is definitely sweet for Alessandro Gentile. “I am very happy now”, he concluded.
