Fotis Katsikaris led Murcia to its best ever season, his abilities are well known to Spain and Baskonia which is searching for a new coach has its sights on him.
This rumor was circulating since the first reports about Perasovic leaving for Anadolu Efes – which are confirmed by Baskonia’s president Josean Querejeta – and Katsikaris who is also free of contract is the main candidate for the job. Katsikaris as the coach of the Greek national team is currently in Athens, preparing for the upcoming pre-Olympic tournament.
His involvement with the national team is an issue both in the negotiations, but also to the duration of his possible contract with Baskonia. Katsikaris’ collaboration with the Greek national team doesn’t include any signed deal after this summer. And also, there’s still the rule in Liga Endesa which doesn’t permit to a national team coach to coach also a Spanish club of the top division.
