Giannis Antetokounmpo certainly was a center of attention during the Media Day of the Greek national team, ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Turin.

Among other things, the young star talked about convincing Milwaukee Bucks to join the efforts of Greece this summer. “I am here and that’s what we should keep”, he said in Sport Fm radio. “In a discussion with the Milwaukee Bucks I made them understand how important it is for me to be in the national team. I told them that many things changed after great players like Spanoulis and Zisis left. Coach Fotis Katsikaris had told me that my role as a leader will be bigger and I made them understand how important it is for me to be with my country’s national team”.

And how difficult is for him to assume a leadership role in the national team? “It is difficult. The most important thing is to make the team and the guys around me even better. Having a leadership role in the Bucks is different than the one in the Greek national team. In the Bucks, there are two – three leaders. In the national team, the leaders are ten. These are the best players in Greece. We must adapt and be prepared for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament”.

When asked about his goals with Greece, Giannis set the bar quite high: “Of course I want to win a title. I want to bring a title to the Greek national team and this is why I play”.
