Panathinaikos issued a press release in which the Greek club congratulates George Papagiannis for being picked in the NBA draft and on the other hand demonstrates the management’s dissapointment for the way the player was treated by former coach Aleksander Djordjevic. Τhe lack of minutes for Papagiannis was the main reason behind the decision to replace the coach with Argiris Pedoulakis, who was also the coach who gave to Papagiannis to play in the Greek top league when he was just 14 years old.
Panathinaikos BC feels the highest honor for its own child, George Papagiannis, who made history by being in the highest position ever attained by Greek athletes in the NBA draft.
We are proud of this great success and the fact that an athlete of Panathinaikos reaches so high honors Greece.
Panathinaikos BC fully supports young Greek basketball players by giving them the chance to show their talent and be members of the National Team.
At the same time we feel great bitterness that our former coaches did not believe in them and did not give time and confidence in these talented players.
We will continue to support Greek talented players, to showcase their abilities through our academies and our team, to have players with morals, principles and values that Panathinaikos holds.
