Furkan Korkmaz was the 26th pick by the Sixers and that was not what he hoped for. As he said, in the Turkish basketball federation site, he was expected to be picked in the Top20 of the draft.
That probably means that his future in the NBA is still unclear: “I am still in shock from the draft. I was not expecting to be drafted with the 26th pick. I was hoping to be selected in the first 20 picks. Things turned a little bit upside down. It was a very hard decision for me. I had waited until the last minute. Acrually, I kind of took some risk. I was drafted by a team that I never expected. Am I sad because of this? No, of course not. I am a player picked in the NBA draft. I will talk with my family and my agent for what would be the best decision for me”.
Considering the fact that Korkmaz’s buy out in the contract with Anadolu Efes is reported to be $ 2 million and th NBA teams are able to pay up to $650.000. Korkmaz should have been at least a lottery pick in order to be able to pay himself the rest of the buy out and to cross the Atlantic this summer due to the rookie salary scale.
