One of the most qualitative European big men of the last 10 years, will soon make a re-appearance in the world of basketball, after a two-year absence from basketball floors.
According to ‘My San Antonio Express News’, Erazem Lorbek will travel to USA in order to be tested by the San Antonio Spurs, the team that has owned his NBA rights since 2011.
He will get a chance to take part in the Spurs’ workout sessions and, if he makes a good enough impression, he might join them in the Summer League and then perhaps be invited to the training camp.
While his skills, particularly on offense, are undisputed, his physical condition, as one can easily understand, is quite doubtful. It’s his shape as an athlete, which the Spurs will mainly examine, in order to see if he is worth a further investment. The reason is simple…
The last time in which the Slovenian forward/center stepped on court, was during the Spanish Liga Endesa Finals of 2014. We are talking about lack of action in any level of basketball for two whole seasons. Yet it seems that the San Antonio Spurs believe that there’s still some juice in him.
Erazem Lorbek was Euroleague champion in 2010 with Barcelona, member of the All-Euroleague First team in 2012 and of the All-Euroleague Second team in 2009, 2010.
Meanwhole the Spurs are signing also undrafted NCAA champ Ryan Arcidiacono who will probably fight for a spot with the team during the summer league.
