Alexander Djordjevic should be considered one of the favorites to land the job of Barcelona’s coach according to Spanish newspaper “El Mundo Deportivo“, despite the issues that exist in such a deal for two main reasons.
Djordjevic has a contract with the Serbian national team until the summer of 2019. According to the Liga Endesa rules, he can’t coach a club of the Spanish league and on the same time be a national team coach. However, a formula can be found – even if it can be quite hypocritical – like it happened with other coaches in the recent past, like Jasmin Repesa and Fotis Katsikaris. Djordjevic can resign from the Serbian national team and be re-hired by the Serbian federation every summer, while having a contract with Barcelona which will release him after the end of each season.
The season reason, however, according to “El Mundo Deportivo” may be more crucial. After leaving Barcelona as a player, Djordjevic signed with Real Madrid and celebrated vividly with the “Whites” the road win in Barcelona which sealed the championship title of 2000. A large part of Barca fans still remember this.
In any case, Djordjevic is in talks with Barcelona and it remains to be seen if he will be the heir to the Xavi Pascual era.
