The Croatians’ victory over Lithuania sent Argentina to the directly in the hands of team USA in the quarterfinals. Without a doubt, the most difficult battle imaginable for Manu Ginobili and his teammates.
“I still think they are the favorites for sure, but after what happened in the last two or three games, yes, there are some doubts,” he said, as reported by FIBA. “With all of that, we still don’t want to play them. Their athleticism, talent, and any given night they can get hot.”
Ginobili’s quotes came after his national team’s defeat vs Spain and before the match between Croatia and Lithuania. His hope to avoid the ultra favorite for the golden medal, didn’t come true.
“I was kind of surprised, two games they were either a shot away from going to overtime or losing. I’m very surprised after playing them (in a friendly in Las Vegas before the Olympics) and looking at their roster.”, he added. Count the Spurs veteran among those who did not expect USA to face any problems during Group stage.
“The tournament is closer than what I thought, it doesn’t look like it’ll be easy for anybody,” Ginobili concluded.
