Lithuania couldn’t get to the semifinal in Rio and in the most crucial game against Australia the whole team was mediocre. Among the players who were expected to shine, Jonas Valanciunas couldn’t make a different with 8 rebounds and 5 points.
After the game coach Jonas Kazlauskas said about him: “I wish him to understand, that if you live only by talent, this fairy-tale can end one day. You have to ask him why he struggled, not me”.
Valanciunas who averaged 7 ppg and 6,8 rpg in Rio admitted that he should have performed much better, but “I was pretty bad, you know. I’ve got to do something to my head”.
In any case, Valanciunas is the future of the Lithuanian NT in the center position, while an other big man, veteran Roberts Javtokas, announced that he retired.
