In theory the semifinal between Serbia and Australia should have been a dog fight. It ended up being a stroll for the “Eagles” who won 87-61 thanks to an amazing first half.
Milos Teodosic had one more great game with 20 points, 4 assists and just one turnover after three quarters, when Serbia was up by 18 points (66-48). Teodosic finished the game with a total of 22 points, 5 assists and one turnovers in 22 minutes of action, Stefan Markovic added 14 points on 5 out of 5 shots and Nikola Jokic had 9 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals.
Defense was the name of the game with the Serbs getting a 35-14 lead at half time. Yes, the Boomers scored just 14 points after 20 minutes of action and that says it all. It was a combination of a great defensive effort and a bad shooting night, as Australia finished the game shooting 33% from the floor and Serbia had a 43-30 rebounding advantage.
Australia which had a great run during the tournament couldn’t react and contain the Serbs. Joe Ingles, the glue guy of the team tried his best with 12 points and 7 rebounds, but Patty Mills (13 p., 6/16 FG) and Matt Dellavedova (3 p., 1/6 FG) had an off night. With the two starting guards in bad shape, nothing else worked. The Serbs led by 31 points (76-45) and now they have a chance to fight for the gold against USA.
