Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv held on for a tough victory on Tuesday in its first game in the Israeli League’s preseason Winner Cup. Maccabi edged Bnei Herzliya 77-74 in Nahariya, Israel, to advance to the semifinals of the competition.
With Maccabi down 3 late in the game, Sonny Weems came up big with 6 points and a steal in an 8-2 flourish to take the victory. Sylven Landesberg paced the winner with 18 points, Yogev Ohayon added 13 points and 5 assists and Gal Mekel tallied 11 and 5, while Weems finished with 9 points and 2 steals. Jeff Adrien led Herzliya with 24 points and 8 rebounds.
