Being one major player down after the injury of Rodrigue Beaubois, Baskonia was searching for an extra guard to bolster its roster. The Basques found him in the face of Nigerian point guard Josh Akognon, as the club officially announced.
He signed a one-month contract, with an option remain in Vitoria until the end of the season.
30-year old Akognon spent most of the previous season playing for Dinamo Sassari in Italy, averaging 14.9 points, 1.7 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game. It’s his scoring efficiency that has obviously attracted the Spanish team to enlist his services.
A notorious 3-point shooter, the international Nigerian has been a three-time leader in baskets from behind the arc in the Chinese CBA league.
