Erick Green spoke to OTE TV in Greece about his new team, Olympiacos, his hopes to return to the NBA, as well as teammates Vassilis Spanoulis and Kostas Papanikolaou!
“We are here to win all the titles. The Greek championship and Cup and the Euroleague”, the American point guard admits. “From my side, I want to be a leader and learn something new everyday. I can help the team win with my ability to create.”
Green is more than satisfied in Piraeus: “Honestly, I’ve heard great things about the club from Malcolm Delaney and Othello Hunter, while I also had the chance to speak with the coach a couple times. I really like our coach, his philosophy and the way he utilizes me.”
Coming to Greece, the player noticed how crazy Olympiacos‘ fans are for the team: “When I played for Siena, the games didn’t have any fans, something was going on. I’ve had the chance to come here and play in a big and great court. I’ve seen videos on Youtube and the atmosphere the fans create is crazy! Then when I arrived here and started going out in the town, I saw how much the fans love Olympiacos, how much they show their love to everyone of us. They make us feel we are at home.”
As for his captain, Vassilis Spanoulis: “It’s fantastic to play with him. He’s an incredible leader. I think we could be an excellent duo.”
Denver waived him in late 2015 for Kostas Papanikolaou, yet now they are both in the same team, away from the NBA: “It’s crazy how life comes to full circle. Denver let me go in order to acquire Kostas and when I came here we had to become friends. We’ve talked about the Nuggets, our connection is great. He’s a good guy, we hang out and he’s really funny.”
He isn’t afraid to admit he wants to return to the USA: “I do believe my performances here can get a guaranteed contract in the NBA. Many players have gone to the NBA from Europe and many young guys get selected in the draft. My goal, though, is to win titles.”
“Many scouters have told me I could go to China this summer, but that wouldn’t be too important”, Green admits and he’s rather happy to play in Europe: “Coming here to play against those big players that eventually end up in the NBA is great. I’m excited to prove myself worthy of an NBA contract by playing in Europe”.
