Xavi Pascual got his first win in Panathinaikos’ bench thanks to Nick Calathes. The Greek guard with three seconds left decided the final 84-83 score as the Greens escaped from Brose Bamberg.
The German champs lost the chance for a big home win, but on the other hand Calathes couldn’t be denied in a night that he missed the triple double just by one assists. He finished the game with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals without even one turnover.
Panathinaikos had a 42-37 half time lead, Brose Baskets managed to have a one point advantage at the end of the third quarter (63-62) and led by 10 points (83-73) with three minutes left. Panathinaikos answer was a 9-0 run (83-82) and everything could happen in the last 1,5 minutes of the game.
First Nikos Zisis lost a three, then James Feldein missed a two points shot for Panathinaikos and Darius Miller missed one more shot for the hosts. With 8 seconds left the Greeks had the ball and Calathes saved the day. In the remaining three seconds Miller missed the last shot of the game.
KC Rivers scored 18 points for Panathinaikos, Feldein added 16 and for the hosts Nicolo Melli had 17 points and Janis Stelnieks 16, while Zisis scored 13.
