The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club has signed guard Dennis Schröder to a contract extension, it was announced today by President of Basketball Operations/Head Coach Mike Budenholzer. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced, however according to reports the player will get $70 million over the next four seasons.
“I am excited to sign this long-term deal with the Hawks. Since coming from Germany as a rookie, this organization and the entire city of Atlanta has embraced me and watched me grow,” Schröder said. “I would like to thank my teammates, the coaching staff and the front office for having faith in me. I’m determined to keep improving as a player and I believe that our team has a chance to accomplish some special things together.”
Schröder, 23, posted single-season career highs in points per game (11.0), rebounds (2.6), assists (4.4, which tied for 30th in the NBA), steals (0.9) and games played (80) during the 2015-16 season. Among players from his draft class during the 2015-16 season, he tied for first in assists per game (4.4), second in assists-to-turnovers ratio (1.91), third in +/- (+225) and seventh in points per game (11.0).
In his 16 career starts, the Hawks have posted an 11-5 record (.688) and he has averaged 13.9 points, 6.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 29.1 minutes per game.
“Over the past three years, we have watched Dennis grow into an elite competitor and an emerging, two-way player. We look forward to his continued development and are excited to make this long-term commitment,” Budenholzer said.
In his three-year career, he has played in 206 games and has career averages of 8.9 points and 3.7 assists in 18.3 minutes per game.
