Barcelona missed…. a full five-men squad of injured players during the clasico against Real Madrid, but that didn’t step them from winning the game. Still, this doesn’t change the need of the club for a transfer that will strengthen its perimeter.
The Spanish team “knocked” at the door of Zenit St. Petersburg in order to buy Serbian point guard Stefan Markovic, according to Eurohoops sources. The “Blaugrana” want to sign a player with a European passport, which is something that coach Giorgos Bartzokas admitted before the match vs Real Madrid. This is why they offered $400.000 to the Russian team to acquire the experienced play-maker.
Markovic averages 11.7 points, 10.3 assists and 3 rebounds per game in Eurocup, being one highly important player for Zenit.
This is probably another reason why the first answer Barcelona received was negative. However the negotiations between the two sides are far from over while at the same time, the Catalans might also divide its attention to other point guard cases that might interest the club.
