Baskonia takes belated revenge and humiliates Fenerbahce

In the rematch of last season’s Final 4 semifinal, Baskonia took its revenge from Fenerbahce in the sweetest way by winning 86-52! The Spanish team improved to 4-2, while Fenerbahce also stands at 4-2. Interestingly enough, this is Obradovic’s biggest loss with Fenerbahce. The previous record had been held by Cedevita, when Fenerbahce lost 89-59 in Zagreb last season.

After a tight beginning for both teams and a rather low scoring first period which ended 14-11, Baskonia took charge. With killer long distance shots and almost perfect defense, the hosts scored 27 points during the second period alone, while they also kept Fenerbahce at 13. At the end of the second quarter, Rafa Luz hit a 3pointer and made the score 41-24.

Fenerbahce tried to cover the deficit in the third period, though the hosts had already established their rhythm in the game. Andrea Bargani and Johannes Voigtmann easily outdid Jan Vesely and Ekpe Udoh, two of the Turkish team’s most efficient players. Voigtmann also made it a 25-point game at 28′, leaving the visitors stunned. After 30 minutes, the Spanish team dominated 67-40.

With not much pressure on their chests, Baskonia’s players turned the game into showtime in the final period.

For the winners, Larkin, Bargnani and Voigtmann shared 13 points each.
