It seems that Barcelona has found and agreed with the player who fill the gap left in the team’s backcourt after the ugly injury that Pau Ribas suffered and will keep him out for the season.
As Spanish Gigantes Del Basket reports, the Blaugrana have already signed American play-maker Alex Renfroe. A point guard who doesn’t only fit the criteria of coach Giorgos Bartzokas but also doesn’t occupy a foreign player’s spot in the roster, since he owns a Bosnian passport.
According to Eurohoops sources, Barcelona acquired Renfroe without paying a buyout to Bayern Munich, his previous team. The contract between the two sides has a duration until the remainder of the season.
Barcelona has searching for someone who possesses experience and skill in this position, but also one who can join the team as a non-foreign player. The latter was of utmost importance, hence the choice of Renfroe.
The 30-year-old player has been wearing the jersey of Bayern Munich since 2015, joining the Bavarians after a great season with Alba Berlin with which he averaged 9.8 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 2014/2015 EuroLeague. He is no stranger to the Spanish league since he played for Valladolid in 2012-2013 and briefly for Baskonia near the end of the 2013-2014 season.
Renfroe has been averaging 5 points and 4.7 assists in the current Eurocup season with Bayern Munich playing almost 17:43 minutes per game.
