During the press conference for the upcoming EuroLeague game between Baskonia and Galatasaray, Sito Alonso discussed how he wants his players to add an extra effort in the game, naming Andrea Bargnani as the one who should provide the example on that matter to the rest of his teammates.
“Andrea Bargnani has to make a step forward because he is the most important player. The rest of the players also have to give a little more,” said the coach of the Basques. “They have to show more character in Spanish league games, although their performances in Euroleague so far are quite positive.”
The Italian big guy has been averaging 13.2 points (on 57.8% 2-pointers, 35.7% from downtown) and 2.8 rebounds in 22: 25 per game in Euroleague, but consistency hasn’t been his best friend so far. There’s also the matter of his defensive output, not exactly an area of expertise for Bargnani.
Regarding the match vs Galatasaray, Alonso mentioned that stopping the offense of the “Cimbom” will be a tricky task. “They are playing more and more better every day because they have a lot of talent and a lot of versatility. They use players in positions which are unusual to them, so that makes them difficult to defend. Especially at a physical level.”
