A pair of free throws by Tyrese Rice saved Barcelona who was able to defend its homecourt against Gran Canaria and escape with a 79-78 win! The hosts improved to 8-2 in the Spanish league standings, while Gran Canaria fell to 5-6.
Stratos Perperoglou led the hosts with 16 points and 4 rebounds, Ante Tomic contributed 12 and Justin Doellman and Aleksandar Vezenkov scored 10 each.
For Gran Canaria, Anzejs Pasecniks had 18 points, Kyle Kuric and Royce O’Neil scored 12 and Sasu Salin added 11.
It is to be noted that both in the first and the last quarter, the points scored for Barcelona were 23 while for the visiting team they were 19. Just an indicator of how tight this win was for the hosts at the Palau Blaugrana! Gran Canaria outdid their opponents in the third quarter with terrific defense, though in the end they couldn’t complete the comeback.
