Brose Bamberg breaks the curse in Tel Aviv against Maccabi

Not only did Brose Bamberg come back to victories after five defeats in a row but accomplished it in a stylish manner, beating Maccabi Tel Aviv 85 – 70 in Israel.

It was perhaps the German team’s most beautiful game in the season so far, in total contrast with the “Yellows” that were sloppy on both ends during the vast majority of the match.

Nicolo Melli had a monster double-double performance of 27 points and 14 rebounds (both career-highs), while Darius Miller added 12 points and Leon Radosevic 11 to pace the winners.

Andrew Goudelock dropped 20 points and Sonny Weems 16 for a Maccabi Tel Aviv that fell behind early and never recovered.

On one part the Israelis’ inefficient offensive plays and on the other, their opponents’ perfectly executed plan sent the two teams in the locker rooms at halftime, with the score 30 – 46! Brose was shooting 9/14 from downtown during the first twenty minutes, mostly wide-open shots created by the team’s ideal ball movement.

With Goudelock and Sonny Weems finding their “hot” hand, Maccabi cut the deficit to 10, 52 – 62 as the two teams head in the final stretch but the guests wouldn’t their advantage be erased.

When Victor Rudd made it 66 – 75, 3:23 before the final buzzer, Brose did what couldn’t in the previous matches: close the game, thanks to a 1-7 partial score that kept them safe and sound!
