Bayern Munich and Serbian national team coach Sasa Djordjevic discussed Sergio Llull’s decision to reject an offer by the Houston Rockets last year and stay in Real Madrid where he is currently hailed as the ultimate leader.

“I loved it. He wants to be the boss,” said Djordjevic in an interview for Spanish AS. “He wants to take charge of his club, he wants to win and be a protagonist. I see myself reflected in these. I made the same decisions in my day. That winning character is an example. We have to take advantage of this in Europe in order to take the product of basketball higher.”

A world champion (1998) and multi-medalist with Serbia in various international tournaments, Djordjevic had been a player of Real Madrid from 1999 to 2002, so it’s not surprising that he pays special attention to the star of the “Blancos”.

He also commented on coaching Milos Teodosic and the…  characteristic he shares with Llull. “You can’t draw a square in the ground for players like Milos or Llull or just tell them ‘you have to play pick and roll’. No, you come and tell them ‘Play’. It’s not that simple, of course you don’t tell them to go out and do what they want. But you expect from them to add more color your game.”
