Galatasaray head coach Ergin Ataman was furious after his team’s defeat at home in the hands of Anadolu Efes, throwing shots at both the referees of the game and the EuroLeague schedule, deeming it “disrespectful” for his club.
“I have some serious criticism on EuroLeague. We came to Istanbul last night (Wednesday). We came from Kazan to Istanbul in 5 hours. We came and we couldn’t do practice, we had to play the game. Efes is also an Istanbul team and they played with Zalgiris at home. That’s a great injustice against us,” he said during the press conference.
He then added that, “We played three games against Turkish teams and all of them was in same conditions. We played away from home and all our opponents played their matches at Istanbul. It’s obvious that EuroLeague doesn’t respect us. Both because of the schedule and also because of the refs’ attitude. Maybe we are not one of the sponsors of the league but we want respect.”
Ataman’s complaints of the officiating also derived from the fact that he got ejected during the fourth quarter after receiving a second technical foul. His comment? “Especially the Italian ref that ejected me… He has such a weird attitude.” Here’s the rest of the game’s quotes.
