Few days after achieving a superb victory against Olympiacos for EuroLeague, Brose Bamberg faced lots of trouble away from home against Medi Bayreuth in the German League.
In the end, the defending champs managed to beat their opponents 92 – 88 to remain first in the standings with a 15 – 1 record. Their opponents currently stand at the fourth spot with a 12 – 3 record.
While Nicolo Melli paced Bamberg with 21 points and 4 rebounds, it was Janis Strelnieks who personally prevented the upset for his team during regulation.
With his team down 82 – 80, the Latvian guard hit a quite difficult jumper from downtown to give his team the lead. Quite the impressive play.
It could have been the game’s decisive basket, but then Nikos Zisis fouled Bastian Doreth sending him to the line. The latter had the chance to win it for his team, but made only 1/2 and the game went to overtime where the guests gained the upper hand for good.
Strelnieks finished the match with 15 points and 4 assists, while Fabien Causeur added 16 and Darius Miller 15.
For Medi Bayreuth, Trey Lewis dropped 23 points and Nate Linhart with Andreas Seiferth 13 apiece.
