For about 30 minutes, Olympiacos had his fair share of troubles against a highly resilient Kymi on the road. Yet thanks to a powerful fourth quarter, the Reds beat their opponents 90 – 72, clinching their 13th Greek League victory in an equal number of games.
The defending champs entered the final period up 59 – 63 yet they outscored their opponents 13 – 27 to reach the last minutes sitting comfortably at the driver’ seat.
Matt Lojeski led Olympiacos’ scorers with 17 points while Giorgos Printezis added 16 and Vangelis Mantzaris 15. Erick Green added 11.
With a strong double-double consisted of 29 points and 13 rebounds, Jordan Morgan was the main source of danger from Kymi’s side. Still, he and his teammates lacked the appropriate endurance needed to defeat an opponent of Olympiacos’ caliber.
While the Reds remain first in the standings thanks to their perfect record, Panathinaikos (12-1) stays in hot pursuit from the second place, after passing victorious from Thessaloniki against PAOK (7-6). It was a win that could’ve come easier for coach Pascual’s squad, that survived a brave late comeback attempt by their hosts.
In the meantime, AEK (10-3) took an important victory over Aris (8-5) in the battle for the third place. The latter still stand fourth in the standings after the defeats by Kolossos (7-6) and PAOK.
