Forget about Crvena Zvezda making the playoffs. The Serbs got the win over Baskonia on the road (87-69) and the EuroLeague Cinderella are knocking the door of the top four.
To be exact Baskonia, Crvena Zvezda and Panathinaikos are tied for the moment on the fifth spot of the standings with a 11-8 record and the Serbs are hosting the Greens in two days at Belgrade. Marko Simonovic scored in total 23 points and Stefan Jovic had 18 points, 12 assists and 4 steals.
While Baskonia is still trying to recover its momentum, Zvezda from the first quarter (25-15) dominated the game, led by 23 points at half time (50-27) with Simonovic having already 14 points and Jovic 9 points and 5 assists.
The third period ended with a 24 points lead for Zvezda (70-46) and Baskonia finally made its run at the start of the fourth quarter. Thanks to a 12-0 partial score, the hosts cut the advantage of Zvezda to 12 points (70-58). However the Serbs answer was their own 9-2 run with Simonovic and Jovic being once again the leaders of the team (79-60).
The game was over, Zvezda got again a 24 points lead (87-63) and Baskonia was defeated at its home court just for the second time this season. The EuroLeague debut of Nicolas Laprovittola with 6 points didn’t change much in the big picture.
