Sergio Llull at the buzzer completed a tour de force with 26 points and gave to Real Madrid the 91-89 win on the road against Brose Bamberg. The Spanish star had also 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Jaycee Carroll added 24 points.
Madrid also finished the game with a 37 rebounds against just 23 of the hosts. Fabien Causer with 14 points was the leader of a balanced and efficient offensive effort, which was not enough.
Real Madrid started the game with a 25-21 lead thanks to a three by Rudy Fernandez and until half time they kept this 4 points advantage (51-47) behind 14 points by Carroll. Nicolo Melli with 10 was the top scorer of the hosts for the first half.
Τhe third period started with the hosts tying the score at 56, getting a 59-58 lead at the 25th minute and Real Madrid taking it back at the end of the third (70-69). It was obvious at this point that everything will be decided on details and the score was once again tied at 78 with six minutes left. The hosts were shooting better and got more into the free throws line, but Real Madrid had a great advantage in the offensive rebounds (14 in total) and more possessions.
The guests entered the last two minutes with a 83-82 lead and thanks to a big offensive rebound of Rudy and one out of two free throws by him, Madrid made it a two points game (84-82). Daniel Theis missed the chance to tie the game and Llull with a big three gave to Madrid a seven points advantage (87-82) with one minute left.
Still the game was not over. With a 5-0 run in 43 seconds, the hosts tied the game again (87-87) and Llull with two made free throws gave to Madrid again the lead (89-87). Nikos Zisis who had four out of four free throws in the last seconds tied the score again (89-89) and there rest was all about Llull.
