Giannis is already a much better player in his second season in the NBA under coach Kidd. One of the best point guards who ever played the game is the new mentor of the Greek forward. Read Giannis’ take on the matter.
“I never seen such a thing”
What can I say about this man? He is a genius. Let me tell you a recent story. Coach Kidd entered the court and practiced with us. He wasn’t wearing sneakers, because he didn’t need to! Probably he did it in order to even the odds (laughs). You can’t describe with words what he did. Man, I am honest.
I am a member of the Bucks for two years and I am working together with my teammates every day. I had never seen one of my teammates and of course me doing such things in practice. If I counted correctly, he dished five perfect assists in nine plays. It was amazing. I was speechless.
I try to learn from him as much as I can every day. After each game, coach talks a lot to me. And that’s an honor. I believe that maybe he is handling also the situation as a competitor. He has achieved everything as a player, so maybe when we don’t do things the way he wants, he is living every play intensely.
You know what’s weird, what’s funny and it’s also a great example of what Jason Kidd means? To get out of the gym and have people waiting for an autograph. No from you or a teammate, but from your coach!!
“He changed everything”
It’s a pleasure to have this particular man as a coach. He came to Milwaukee and changed everything. He has a very convincing and realistic way after each game we lose to make us feel like we are not a losing team. We should be and behave like a winning team. Our practices after a defeat are very hard… He makes us understand that in Milwaukee we can’t just lose games. We must be a playoffs team. For me, it’s a great success to change the team’s DNA so fast.
There’s something also very important. He talks a lot to all the players and we feel that he cares for us. Not just as players, but also as personalities and human beings.
In which position Giannis’ thinks that he can be more effective and demonstrate better his basketball qualities? Here’s what he thinks on the matter.
It’s a very complicated matter in order to answer it with complete conviction, specially in such an early stage of my career. The most important thing for me is to help in many parts of the game, to became as versatile as I can. I don’t want to spend one day without adding something in my game and evolve, also mentally. In my approach and understanding of the game.
What I mean is that no matter my position, I feel the need to help in defense and rebounding and also I like to create. To make things happen for my teammates, by attacking the rim, or starting from the low post with my back to the basket in order to take advantage of my size. For the moment, I realize that I can do bigger damage as a “3” or a “4”. I don’t think that there’s a faster power forward than me in the NBA, who can defend me when I put the ball on the floor. That’s the position that I believe I will settle in the future, but I don’t want any position to hold me from improving all parts of my game.
