Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem advanced to Basketball Champions League quarterfinals after finishing off Peristeri winmasters with a 79-73 road win for 2-0 in the best-of-three series.
J’Covan Brown and James Feldeine led the winning effort with 25 and 24 points respectively while TaShawn Thomas scored 13.
For Peristeri, Yanick Moreira scored 14 in addition to Panagiotis Vasilopoulos’ 12and Steven Gray’s 11 points. Moreira also grabbed 11 boards.
Hapoel is the most efficient offensive team in BCL this season but the defense was the key against the Greeks. They were keeping Peristeri on around 20% shooting for most of the first half and created a substantial 46-28 lead at the break led by Feldeine’s 19 points.
Peristeri showed signs of a comeback after the halftime rest with a 17-4 run which cut the gap to just three points (50-47), however, they still couldn’t get it going from behind the three-point line while Hapoel kept their cool and got back to their rhythm from early game.
The Israelis slowly increased the lead back to double-digits (70-57) and sealed their ticket to the quarterfinals. Brown was a big part of that late run with 17 fourth-quarter points.
