The president and co-owner of AEK Athens suggested at the Monday’s (March 30) conference call between the clubs to finish the 2019-20 Basketball Champions League season with a Final Eight in September, according to sportfm.gr.
Jerusalem was proposed as the most likely host, however, while most clubs were supportive of the idea, Hapoel and Nymburk had objections.
The proposal arrived as an alternative to avoid playing a Final Four without fans this summer or to cancel the season.
If this idea came to fruition, the start of the next season would have to be postponed to the end of October and it would most probably mean that the teams will play with heavily changed rosters.
Also, before the Final Eight, two more participants would have to be decided as Tenerife and Oostende as well as Dijon and Nizhny Novgorod are tied at 1-1 in their playoff series.
