Rytas Vilnius has officially joined the Basketball Champions League. The Lithuanian powerhouse will participate in the competition in the upcoming season for the first time and club general director Rolandas Jarutis commented on the decision.
“It will be interesting to take part in this big tournament,” Jarutis said per the team’s website. “Stable financial side, clear sports principle, ambitious development plans, investments in broadcasts, attention to every team – they are all very positive. The financial side of the tournament and the guarantees show a lot about FIBA’s ambitions, which is very important in modern basketball. This is especially relevant now during a pandemic, when there’s a lot of uncertainty in the entire world of sports.”
Rytas chairman Adomas Buzinskas commented,” FIBA provides the organization with financial stability and the opportunity to work in the top direction of the club: developing the youth system. We don’t want to be stuck in a mediocre role, so we had to choose a more complex but long-term process of organizational transformation. I believe that the Rytas family will trust this decision and the club will convince those who doubt it with its results, which will definitely come when everyone works together.”
The Basketball Champions League announced the addition of Rytas to the competition plus Turkish club Darussafaka Tekfen and Spanish side Bilbao on Tuesday (19/5).
