Rytas Vilnius announced that Donaldas Kairys is the new head coach of the team. Kairys had opted out of his contract with Russian VTB League club Avtodor Saratov to join Rytas on a three-year deal.
“Money is definitely not the most important thing for me. The more important thing is the opportunity to work in an interesting way. The Rytas club is known all over Europe. The city has deep basketball traditions. The team has great fans and I believe that together we will properly represent Vilnius,” the 43-year-old Kairys said for Rytas’ website.
Kairys will coach Rytas in the Lithuanian LKL League and the Basketball Champions League. The club joined the latter in May, together with Spanish side Bilbao and Turkish team Darussafaka Tekfen.
