Kamil Novak, FIBA Europe Secretary General spoke about Dimitris Giannakopoulos’ decision to sell the team and his wish for Panathinaikos to make the move to Basketball Champions League in the future.
“That was definitely not a bad statement. That’s good for us and I believe confirms the work of the past four years in which we built up a league from out of nothing”, said Novak as adapted by David Hein.
“And we are happy that a club like Panathinaikos and the club’s owner had positive words. But for us, it’s just another sign to keep going and working to build up the league. I think everybody sees the steps every season and it is getting better at a high level.”
Panathinaikos is still under a 10-year contract with EuroLeague, with an exit clause of 10M euros, though Giannakopoulos firmly expressed his wish for the club to switch competitions, one that he had previously also discussed.
