Nikita Mikhailovsky’s agent, Igor Rubin, explained to Izvestia why his client opted to keep himself out of the list of early entrants for the 2020 NBA draft. The young upstart considered a huge prospect for Russian basketball will extend his run with Avtodor Saratov instead of testing the NBA waters.
“Major scouting sessions and individual workouts being canceled threw out our plans,” he confessed, “We decided not to rush things. Nikita will stay with Avtodor for the 2020-21 season and declare for the 2021 NBA draft.”
The 19-year-old guard is likely to return to European club competitions next season with Avtodor expected to participate in the Basketball Champions League or FIBA Europe Cup. He already holds experience from a couple of BCL qualifiers in 2018 and 15 Europe Cup matches through the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
Ahead of the 2020-21 season, his fourth at Avtodor, Mikhailovsky will be looking to secure an improved playing status hoping to strengthen his NBA bid. He is coming off 18.2 minutes per VTB United League game up to the early ending of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic, in which he averaged 6.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
Mikhailovsky previously declared for the 2019 draft but withdrew himself from consideration.
