Ertugrul Erdogan announced that he opted to stay with Galatasaray Doga Sigorta despite the interest from Zalgiris Kaunas that on Tuesday announced the hiring of Martin Schiller as its new head coach. He previously emerged as a serious candidate to become the successor of Sarunas Jasikevicius at the Lithuanian Turkish Airlines EuroLeague participant.
“Many thanks to Zalgiris president Paulius Motiejunas, who sees me as a head coach candidate for such a prestigious Euroleague club, Zalgiris,” he wrote in his statement, “It was an honor. But from now on, I won’t pursue the Zalgiris coaching job. I’m staying at Galatasaray.”
Erdogan has been the head coach of the Turkish powerhouse since 2018. Following his first couple of seasons in the 7DAYS EuroCup, he will guide his side in the Basketball Champions League this coming season apart from Turkey’s domestic competitions.
UPDATE: Galatasaray announced that coach Erdogan signed a 1+1 contract to stay with the team.
