Basketball Champions League CEO Patrick Comninos was the host of the 2020-21 BCL Qualification Rounds and Regular Season draw at the House of Basketball on Wednesday. A different draw for the competition this year, that, as Comninos explained, followed the health guidelines in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic with no team representatives in attendance.
“The 2019-20 season, despite being short and an incomplete one saw thousands of fans watching the games in the arenas and millions of them following the competition on social media. More than 700,000 attended the regular season games, an increase of 13% from the previous year, while more than 2.5 million basketball fans are now following the Basketball Champions League on social media”, Comninos stated in his opening remark before the draw.
“All of us look at these impressive numbers with both a sense of pride, but more importantly, a great sense of responsibility, since the BCL is proposing a new model of a European club competition, that serves the interests and the needs of thousands of basketball players and hundreds of clubs around the continent”, he added.
