Former two-time EuroLeague champion Vangelis Mantzaris has joined the practices of AEK Athens, according to information by the Greek club. Mantzaris has been a free agent after his 2020 stint with Promitheas Patras.
AEK has been facing practice problems due to its many absences since Jonas Maciulis, Dimitris Katsivelis, Vlado Jankovic and Tyrese Rice aren’t participating in the team training sessions. Mantzaris arrived to help for that reason and the club says that there isn’t any “contractual obligation/prospect” between the two sides.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was officially announced that AEK Athens will be hosting the upcoming Basketball Champions League Final Eight. The Greek club previously won the BCL title in 2018, in a Final Four that was also held in Athens.
