With the number of coronavirus cases rising in Athens and new measures announced today in the region of Attika, that include the shut down of music halls for the next two weeks, it seems highly unlikely for fans to be allowed at the stands of OAKA for the Basketball Champions League Final Eight.
While this can’t be considered a surprise, there were also hopes that at least 30% of OAKA’s capacity will be permitted to be used. In theory that could have been 6.000 tickets sold and the financial status of the event gets even more complicated without this revenue source.
It has to be noted that the Greek state will contribute financially to the event through the regional government of Attika.
Ηowever, not having fans at all is the worst-case scenario and with two weeks left until the tip-off, there’s an obvious disappointment, especially in the hosting club of AEK.
In theory, it’s even possible for the event to be relocated either to Spain or to the Czech Republic, but this is a scenario that seems far fetched at the moment.
