Iberostar Tenerife led up to 16 points and ultimately got the 62 – 54 win over Oostende to advance to the Basketball Champions League Final Eight after winning the series 2-1.
Marcelinho Huertas (13 points), Giorgi Shermadini (nine points, nine rebounds) and Aaron Doorknekamp (nine points) produced the most for Tenerife, the 2017 champions of the competition. Thomas Welsh (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Lois Schwartz (12 points) scored in double figures for the losing side.
Oostende held a 7-point advantage in the second period, however, Tenerife reacted to tie the match 30- 30 at halftime and then proceeded to take control. The Spanish team built a double-digit lead in the third period and then went up 59 – 43 early in the fourth.
That margin proved to be too much for Oostende to completely erase. A comeback effort by the visiting side was left undone since they only came close by six points down the stretch.
Tenerife will face fellow Spanish club Zaragoza in the quarterfinal stage.
