VEF Riga failed to hold on to its early comfortable lead but secured the win, 60-57, over Peristeri Tuesday at the Arena Riga. The outcome of the exciting contest punched in a playoffs ticket for the hosts and eliminated the Greek club.
Kristers Zoriks in the dying moments of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season Gameday 12 tilt hit the game-winner from beyond the arc. He produced a total of 10 points off the late clincher.
Kyle Allman Jr. was mainly responsible for the fast start peaking at a 28-10 lead. The former Cal State Fullerton standout ended up with 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Peristeri would qualify with a win by a margin of at least four points. Veteran center Ioannis Bourousis pouring a game-high 19 points got the visitors extremely close knotting the teams at 57 with four seconds left but overtime was not meant to be.
VEF Riga powered by the 4-2 Group E record will be drawn into a new group consisting of four teams in the next round.
The team coached by Argyris Pedoulakis finished at 2-4.
