Former EuroLeague champion Nikos Zisis hinted that he may retire with the season over for AEK Athens.

“I haven’t taken the decision yet but I know that this may have been the last moment,” Zisis, who becomes 38 in August, said to the Greek National Television after winning third place in the 2021 Greek League. “People were singing my name and this brought back memories of old. You will know what will happen soon. If this indeed was my last moment, I was glad that my family was here and we lived all this.”

It would be fitting for Zisis to finish his career as an AEK player. He began as a pro with the Greek side in 2000 at 17 years of age and won the 2002 championship plus the 2001 and 2020 Greek Cup titles.

Over a career that spanned through three decades, Zisis won the 2008 EuroLeague with CSKA plus several domestic league titles in Italy (with Benetton Treviso and Montepaschi Siena), Germany (with Brose Bamberg) and Russia/VTB (with CSKA). He was also a prominent member of the Greek national team that won the gold medal in the 2005 EuroBasket, the silver medal in the 2006 World Cup and the bronze medal in the 2009 EuroBasket.
