Unicaja Malaga announced that the club will participate in FIBA’s Basketball Champions League for the next three seasons.
The administration council of Malaga unanimously decided to move the team to the Basketball Champions League after an “analysis of the actual situation that’s depended on economic, strategic and sports criteria,” per the Spanish club.
Malaga will be playing outside EuroLeague Basketball competitions in general, for the first time since 2001. The Andalusian side was a EuroLeague regular from 2001 to 2016 when it moved to EuroCup. They returned to EuroLeague for 2017-2018 after winning the 2017 EuroCup championship and played in the latter again for the next three years.
Winner of one Spanish championship title, one Spanish Cup, one EuroCup, and one Korac Cup, Unicaja automatically becomes one of the most decorated clubs of the BCL and a title contender for next season.
