After parting ways with Joan Penarroya, who led the team to historic success in the past two seasons, San Pablo Burgos has been working on finding a worthy replacement and they might have found it. According to the information by Chema de Lucas and Eurohoops, Ilias Zouros is the front runner to be the new head coach.
Zouros has gone through top-level European benches, such as Olympiacos, Zalgiris and Anadolu Efes, in addition to being the Greek national team coach. Now, he could become the coach of the two-time Basketball Champions League champion.
However, the hiring will not be easy, since there are details that complicate the operation. Zouros is the coach of the Georgian national team at the moment but Liga Endesa does not allow coaches to be at the bench of both a club and a national team at the same time.
It should be noted that it is not the first time that the Burgos has been interested in Zouros, with whom they had contact in 2019. However, the Greek coach had committed to Peristeri and did not want to break the agreement, even if he was financially damaged.
