Stefanos Dedas is the new coach of AEK, as the club announced, after signing a two-year contract. The 39-years old coach returns to Greece after two years in Hapoel Holon.
Dedas was named coach of the year in Israel, leading the club to its best-ever season yet and winning the Balkan League.
Dedas began his basketball coaching career at 19 years of age with PAOK, working there from 2001 to 2004, as an assistant. In 2004, he became the assistant coach of MENT, and later that season, he became the head coach of the club.
The next season, he signed to be the assistant coach of Jure Zdovc, at Iraklis. From 2007 to 2009, he was the head coach of OFI Crete. He was also assistant coach of the Aris between 2009 and 2011 and he left Greece for the first time, also as an assistant for Russia and Spartak Saint Petersburg from 2011 to 2013.
In 2013, he re-united with Jure Zdovc as an assistant, this time with Gaziantep Basketbol in Turkey. After the departure of Zdovc for AEK in 2015, Dedas became the head coach of the club and then moved in 2017 to Bahcesehir until his decision to leave for Israel and Holon.
The Greek coach worked also as an assistant in the Slovenian national team in 2009 and 2014.
