SIG Strasbourg re-signed head coach Lassi Tuovi and assistants Romain Leroy and Frank Kuhn until the end of the 2022-23 season, the team announced Tuesday. The French club was set to confirm the deal with the Finnish boss, according to Eurohoops sources.
Tuovi, 34, led the French side to the Basketball Champions League Final 8 last season. Strasbourg eventually finished fourth at Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. At the domestic level, the Jeep Elite Pro A Final Four berth was met by the semifinal loss to LDLC ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne.
He was named head coach in early 2020 following stints as an assistant to Vincent Collet and Henrik Dettmann. His other jobs as an assistant feature Besiktas and BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque. He is also the current assistant of the Finland senior national team.
Strasbourg is among the teams directly placed into the Regular Season of the next BCL edition following the solid campaign in the previous season. They topped Group E of the 2020-21 Regular Season as favorites Rytas and Peristeri were knocked out. AEK and Turk Telekom became their Round of 16 victims, despite starting Group K with three consecutive defeats.
