Although Unicaja Malaga announced the addition of Marco Spissu near the end of July, a new development might force the two sides to go separate ways.

As the club announced, the Italian guard has failed the necessary medical tests and will not as of yet be joining Unicaja. Dinamo Sassari, Spissu’s former team, has also been informed about the situation.

“The player Marco Spissu will not finally be able to join Unicaja 2021/22, as he does not pass the medical examination that has been carried out on his arrival in Malaga, necessary to make effective the contract between the parties,” the club’s statement read.

The 26-year-old played for Sassari during the past four years, averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 assists last season. He was also part of the Italian national team that made its way to the Tokyo Olympics by upsetting Serbia in the qualifiers and eventually reached the quarterfinals in the biggest sporting event.
