Quincy Ford was released by VEF Riga, confirmed team president Gatis Jahovics on Thursday.
“The player decided he didn’t want the vaccine,” he explained, “His decision made it impossible to participate in team practices. Traveling with the team and playing in games would be questionable.”
Ford, 28, was among the early signings for the Latvian club working towards the 2021-22 season, including the Basketball Champions League Regular Season.
“We agreed to part ways before even starting,” added Jahovics on the former Northeastern standout.
Jahovics, 37, also clarified that the remaining team members have been vaccinated, according to coronavirus health and safety regulations.
VEF Riga will face AEK, Falco Szombathely, and one more team coming out of the qualifying rounds in Group D of the BCL Regular Season.
